Start of the 2008 Australian Grand Prix

First Win of 2008 By Hamilton

After a disastrous year in 2007 with spy scandals, fines and driver rivalries McLaren got off to a great start in 2008 with a win in Australia. With cars falling off the track in every direction and only 7 cars crossing the finish line, Hamilton kept his cool through it all.

Ferrari on the other hand got off to their worst start in 16 years with Kimi Raikonnen scoring their single point.

Eventual title contender Felipe Massa got off to a very poor start to the year. On the first lap he bounced off a barrier and was lucky to continue. Not long later an ambitions attempt to pass David Coulthard ended in disaster although not for Felipe. Coulthard ended up with a very broken car in the gravel trap.

Heikki Kovaleinen got his 2008 bad luck off to a start. Where he should have been going for a 2nd place behind Hamilton, a badly timed safety car meant he had to pit late and  came out at the back of the pack.
