Uneasy Relationship at McLaren Mercedes

It was all smiles during the advert above recorded to advertise Mercedes-Benz, but it was a different story at the McLaren Mercedes team at the time.

In pretty much every interview that Hamilton and Alonso had during the year the two drivers refused to admit there was a problem. And Hamilton admitted that the day they recorded the advert, they had good fun.

The problems started right at the start of the year, with Hamilton stepping up to the challenge of being team mate to the world champion. Alonso reckoned the brit was being favoured by the team.

The row came to a head at the Hungarian Grand Prix where Alonso held Hamilton up in the pits to ensure he couldn’t go for pole on his final qualifying lap. Ron Dennis wasn’t impressed and Alonso threatened him with going to the FIA with information on the Ferrar-McLaren spy scandal.

This spelt the beginning of the end of the Alonso McLaren relationship and he was out of the team by the end of the year.
