Jenson’s Hoped For Dry Race But won in Wet Anyway
A fantastic win for Jenson Button at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
It was a supreme achievement considering his closest challengers before the rain started, Trulli and Rosberg only managed 4th and 8th, while the drivers sharing the podium with him, were there mostly due to tyre gambles.
Despite a poor start Jenson was able to stay in 3rd place until the first round of pitstops. Once Trulli and Rosberg pitted in front of him, he did what was required and put in some really quick laps. When he completed his own pitstop he came out way ahead of that pair.
Then when the rain started all hell broke loose and the Brawn team were in uncharted waters with not having tested the car in wet conditions. Despite this Jenson felt the car was well balanced on the intermediate tyres.
The race was won on great driving by Jenson, and great team management and strategic decisions from the Brawn team and no doubt Ross Brawn in particular much reminiscent of the Schumacher era.
