Schumacher Emotional During Press Conference
During the 2000 Italian Grand Prix post race press conference Michael Schumacher becomes quite emotional. Having just won the race in front of the Ferrari home crowd he had equaled Senna’s number of race victories with 41.
Normally portrayed as arrogant and unemotional Schumacher let his guard down here and even his brother Ralf who tries to comfort him looks quite overwhelmed.
After a run of poor races it was a relief to Schumacher to be back on the top step of the podium and especially in front of the Tifosi.
There were just 2 points between Schumacher and Hakkinen at this stage of the season with 3 Grand Prix left to run. Schumacher went on to win his 3rd F1 Drivers World Title.
It was a tragic day at Monza as due to a 5 car pile up at the start of the race a fire marshall was fatally injured. It was the first death at a Formula 1 race since Ayrton Senna’s in 1994. Button blamed Schumacher for the accident while Barrichello blamed Frentzen.
